The Pressure is Off
Dorlin looks to reignite title bid at Silverstone
Westbourne Motorsport’s James Dorlin heads to Silverstone this weekend [14-15 September] with nothing to lose as he aims to reignite his Renault UK Clio Cup title hopes.
An unprecedented five race victories, four pole positions and seven podium finishes across the eight meetings thus far put the Vantage Motor Group and GardX Protection-supported racer third overall in the standings, 30 points adrift of leader Max Coates.
With 112 points still on offer in the UK’s most hotly-contested single make category in the next fortnight at the ‘Home of British Motorsport’ and Brands Hatch, it remains everything to play for.
Last time out at Rockingham heralded another double points finish for the Barnsley-based racer, but anything less than silverware this weekend could prove crucial in the championship hunt.
Dorlin travels to the 1.6 mile National circuit off the back of another successful outing at the ever-popular Goodwood Revival alongside touring car legend Stuart Graham in a Jaguar MK2.
The blend of experience and rising star proved a potent combination as they placed highest amongst their contemporaries, adding another footnote to Dorlin’s equally impressive track record in historics.
The action at Silverstone kicks off with qualifying on Saturday at 11:25 ahead of the opening race at 16:00.
The final contest - televised live nationwide through ITV Sport’s free-to-air HD coverage - will begin at 13:50 the following day.
James Dorlin said, “We’re heading into the final two meetings of the season now, and things are getting really close in the championship fight.
“I’ve absolutely no doubt in my mind that we’ll be able to close the deficit this weekend, but this season is proving impossible to predict. I feel I’m in a strong state of mind now, and I’ll be going out to win as many races as possible before the end of the season, rather than worrying about finishing in specific positions to bag points. Let’s see what happens.
“A massive thank you to all my sponsors for their continued support, and to Westbourne Motorsport for being meticulous as ever in their preparation. Hopefully this weekend we can repay all that effort with a return to winning ways!”
