British GT
In 2019, James was signed by McLaren to drive the McLaren 570S GT4 in the British GT Championship.
UK Clio Cup
Stepping up to the toughest single-make championship in the UK is no mean feat, but James' talent commanded respect from the first meeting and he finished his first season in the Renault UK Clio Cup as the only driver among the crop of rookies to take a race victory, overturning eventual champion Mike Bushell with a dramatic, last-gasp move at Thruxton.
His potential was cemented with a further victory at Silverstone in monsoon conditions followed by the runner-up spot in the hotly-contested Graduates Cup, and James went into his sophomore season aiming to challenge for the overall title.
The first round didn't go well for him but he bounced back with 5 straight wins, putting him in the championship lead. In 2018, James stood on the podium 9 times, 6 of them were on the top step. Going into the last race of the season, there were three contenders for the title. James won the final race of the season and left Brands Hatch as the provisional champion.
Michelin Clio Cup Series
After a part-season in 2015 due to age restrictions, James sealed the Michelin Clio Cup Series title in his first full season in the category. Registering twelve podium finishes, eight race victories, eleven pole positions and six fastest laps.
The Westbourne Motorsport ace took the title at the world-famous Silverstone Circuit and earned wider recognition from Autosport magazine as one of the club racers of the season.
The championship provides a home to the third-generation Clio Cup car used in the flagship Renault UK Clio Cup until 2013, and provided James with a wide-ranging experience, not least in managing a closely-fought title fight.
Junior Saloon Car Championship
James ensured a seamless transition into car racing. This became most evidence after joining the Junior Saloon Car Championship, centered around the Citroen Saxo, where James took a podium finish on his debut at Croft and would add another nine – including his first car racing victory at Brands Hatch in September 2013 – en route to second in the standings in season one.
James maintained his momentum from a very successful first year in car racing to seal the Junior Saloon Car Championship in style, registering eight race victories, five pole positions and a podium finish in all but three contests of the fourteen-race calendar.
The very nature of single-make racing places the emphasis on driver skill and adaptability, further cementing James' prospects as one of the brightest talents of his generation. The championship features the 100BHP Citroen Saxo VTR and is for the competitors aged 14 to 17 years old.
Karting
James' motorsport career began with a successful three-year stint in karting, culminating in his first two championship crowns aged 12 and 13 at local circuit South Yorkshire Kart Club.
Karting became the place James would learn the race craft which he has built on each year earning the four championship crowns he currently has to his name.
