Ready for British GT title decider at Donington Park
Tolman Motorsport-prepared McLaren 570 S a proven contender at 2.4-mile Leicestershire venue in 2019, with Dorlin and Smith nearly victors back in June.
James Dorlin is aiming for a positive result to close out the British GT Championship season at Donington Park, Leicestershire this weekend [14-15 September].
The McLaren GT4 rising star arrives at the 2.4-mile East Midlands venue fresh from a first victory in the category behind the wheel of the Tolman Motorsport-prepared McLaren 570 S at Brands Hatch last time out.
That victory – long overdue for the Vantage Motor Group and Prototype Creative-backed racer – means Dorlin and team mate Josh Smith will carry a 20-second time penalty for this weekend, as per the regulations.
The duo have proven their race-winning capabilities at Donington Park already this season, however, having led every lap of the UK’s premier GT racing series’ first visit of 2019 back in June; misfortune denied the pair a trip to the top step of the podium on that occasion after contact from another car, but the BRDC Rising Star remains optimistic of translating that promise into another strong result.
Dorlin and Smith also still remain in mathematical contention for the GT4 crown, 33 points adrift of the lead with a maximum score of 37.5 on offer this weekend.
The action gets underway with two free practice sessions (09:35 & 12:45) ahead of qualifying (17:03) on Saturday, with the season-ending, two-hour showdown at 13:15 on Sunday.
As usual, the race can be viewed online live, for free, on SRO’s YouTube channel and Facebook page.
James Dorlin (#4) said, “We’ve got the 20-second success penalty this weekend, so the odds aren’t in our favour, but I’m confident that a good result is still on the cards.
“We led every lap we took part in during the visit to Donington Park earlier in the season, so know the McLaren 570 S will be competitive there.
“I’ll start the race, which I’m really looking forward to as it’s always exciting going down the Craner Curves on the opening lap! If we can have a bit of rain this weekend as well, that would be the icing on the cake!”
