'Pumped' heading to Thruxton

BRDC Rising Star arrives in Hampshire off the back of a double victory at the last Renault UK Clio Cup meeting at Donington Park.

Championship challenge now firmly back on track for the Westbourne Motorsport racer as he revists the scene of his first win in the category.

Pace at the 2.4 mile circuit evident in testing mere weeks ago, with Dorlin lapping competitively at the top of the timesheets.

James Dorlin heads into the third meeting of the 2018 Renault UK Clio Cup season at the high-speed Thruxton Circuit in Hampshire this weekend [19-20 May], with the Westbourne Motorsport racer firmly setting his sights on another brace of victories.

Donington Park three weeks’ ago proved the perfect tonic for the Vantage Motor Group and GardX Protection-backed racer’s title challenge, with Dorlin claiming pole position and both race wins at the East Midlands circuit.

That result blows the title fight wide open, with the BRDC Rising Star now just 9 points adrift of one-time British Touring Car Championship racer Max Coates at the top of the standings.

The pace set by Dorlin and team-mate James Colburn at the championships recent official test at the circuit has also turned heads, with the pairing tipped once again by punters and competitors alike as ‘ones to watch’.

More recently, Dorlin once again demonstrated his prowess in racing historics, taking victory in the first JEC (Jaguar Enthusiasts Club) Hawthorne Challenge at Oulton Park last weekend behind the wheel of a Mark 2 Jaguar (pictured below) in a single-race shootout.

Thruxton, of course, holds fond memories for Barnsley-based driver Dorlin, who defied the odds and beat Mike Bushell in a photo finish to his first UK Clio Cup career victory at the same venue last May.

Any repeat of that form this weekend will surely stand Dorlin in good stead as he aims to keep the momentum on his side in the championship battle.

James Dorlin (#32) said, “I’m so pumped ahead of this weekend. We have some good momentum behind us now after a great set of results at Donington Park, and of course the aim is to carry that through into Thruxton this weekend.

“It’s been a very successful circuit for me in the past, of course, and we were at the sharp end of the timesheets there recently in testing, so everything looks to be in good shape.

“I know Westbourne Motorsport will give me a car to challenge in, as always. There’s absolutely nothing stopping us from getting some more victories this weekend - and that’s exactly what I’ll be going for!

“Thanks again to all my fantastic sponsors who make this possible and get me out on circuit - we’ll do you proud again this weekend.”
