McLaren GT4 rising star James Dorlin was denied a maiden victory in the British GT Championship after a late mechanical failure at the Silverstone 500 last weekend [8th-9th June].

Starting from the second row of the grid in the Tolman Motorsport-run McLaren 570S alongside team-mate Josh Smith, the BRDC Rising Star made a positive start, rising from fourth to the race lead in the opening stint.

Smith then maintained the McLaren Development Driver pairing's advantage at the front of the GT4 field after the first driver swap, handing back over to Vantage Motor Group and Prototype Creative-backed racer Dorlin an hour later.

On fresh tyres, Dorlin then set about extending their lead, lighting up the timing screens by more than a second versus the opposition on his return to the 3.66-mile Grand Prix circuit.

One lap later into Luffield, however, a mechanical failure forced the #4 McLaren to pit, denying the duo a richly-deserved maiden victory in the UK's premier GT racing category.

The net result of the weekend's action leaves Dorlin and Smith eighth in the GT4 standings, 17 points adrift of the summit, whilst Tolman Motorsport are now second in the Teams' stakes.

Donington Park hosts the next event of the campaign, scheduled for the weekend of 22nd-23rd June.

James Dorlin said, "It is, of course, a bit of a frustrating end and another 'what could have been' result, but even so there are a lot of positives to take from this weekend.

"We qualified fourth and led most of the race, which is a testament to how strong a package we have in the Tolman Motorsport McLaren 570S.

"The failure was something completely out of anyone's control, it's just one of those unfortunate moments that come around once in a while in motorsport.

"We will be back fighting strong at Donington Park in a fortnight - that's for sure!"
