James takes title race to the wire

Podium return at Silverstone

James Dorlin threw himself firmly back into the 2018 Renault UK Clio Cup title race with a podium return at Silverstone last weekend [15-16 September].

The BRDC Rising Star arrived at the 'Home of British Motorsport' needing a strong weekend to keep his title hopes alive, and leaves for Brands Hatch in a fortnight within touching distance of top spot.

A strong qualifying performance to secure two second-row starting slots put the Vantage Motor Group and GardX Protection-backed racer at the heart of the action, with Dorlin charging to fourth in the opener to reduce the points deficit.

Another battling drive with title rival and series stalwart Paul Rivett around the 1.6 mile National circuit earnt the Westbourne Motorsport racer a return to the rostrum in the finale, with second place after an early battle with eventual winner Bradley Burns meaning the arrears stand at just 7 points with 56 on offer in Kent.

Only four drivers - Max Coates, Rivett, Dorlin and Daniel Rowbottom - remain in contention on what is sure to be an absorbing finals day around the Grand Prix loop.

James Dorlin said, "It's another good points haul and it's always great to end the weekend on a high with a podium finish. Things are now looking pretty close heading to Brands Hatch in two weeks, and it's all to play for.

"We'll go back to base to regroup now and make sure everything is in top condition ready for the finale - I know everybody at Westbourne Motorsport will give me a car capable of getting the performances we need.

"The equation is simple; let's give it absolutely everything and see where we end up."
